New Peterborough Youth MP Elected

A new Youth MP for Peterborough has been announced, following a record-breaking election.

Noah Salehi (16) was confirmed as the city’s Youth MP for 2020/21 during a special ceremony in the council chamber at Peterborough Town Hall on Tuesday.

Noah was one of seven candidates who took part in the election, who were all awarded certificates from Gillian Beasley, the chief executive of Peterborough City Council.

This was the 17th year that the youth election has taken place and the 10,051 votes cast was the most ever recorded.

Noah will represent Peterborough at UK Youth Parliament, sit on Peterborough’s Youth Council and meet with key leaders in the city.

Noah said: “I am very excited to be taking on the role of Youth MP for Peterborough and would like to thank everyone who voted for me, my competitors and the team at Peterborough City Council for organising the elections. I can’t wait for the opportunities this role will give me and the chance to represent the city’s young people at a national level.”

“ I intend to fight injustices, promote life-skill leaning in school lessons and ensure that climate change is promoted in Peterborough and nationally.”

This year’s elections saw pupils at 16 schools vote, with the full results as follows:
